A template is something that converts data from one format to another. LiPS uses the Smarty templating engine to transform LinkedIn data to a webpage.
Installed Templates
LiPS comes with Installed Templates. They’re in the Page Settings section, selectable through the Installed Templates option. The list of templates is build when the tool gets activated and removed when it gets deactivated. Remember that in case you’re missing updates while developing a template.
LiPS minimal v0.9 (en)
This template will output a English page. The page will not contain honors, volunteer, twitter-accounts, associations, publications and patents. For the template being able to create a page, it needs a couple of static variables.
residence
The LinkedIn API does not return the users’ zipcode but returns an area instead. This variable is used in the personal section and contains the current residence.
initials_and_last_name
If you didn’t provide your full name at registration time, like I did, this variable allows you to specify initials with a last name. It’s used in the personal section.
LiPS minimal v0.9 (nl)
This template will output a Dutch page. The page will not contain honors, volunteer, twitter-accounts, associations, publications and patents. For the template being able to create a page, it needs a couple of static variables.
woonplaats
The LinkedIn API does not return the users’ zipcode but returns an area instead. This variable is used in the personal section and contains the current residence.
initialen_achternaam
If you didn’t provide your full name at registration time, like I did, this variable allows you to specify initials with a last name. It’s used in the personal section.
meer_info
If you want to link to another page, which has additional information, you specify the link here. It adds an additional paragraph at the end of the page, right before the page metadata. This paragraph is not added when the value is kept empty.
Roll your own
This page has instructions on how to roll your own template. Feel free to contact me when you encounter problems.
LinkedIn Profile Synchronization Tool has been installed, but I’m getting an error. The error suggested that I try back later because my connection may be too slow to handle the communications with Linkedin. Is this a common problem?
I noticed your comment today, sorry about that.
The connection too slow error is not common, but I’ve seen it happen more than once when the OAuth credentials are not set correctly. Could you verify if you’ve set the OAuth API Key and API Secret correctly? The way to configure the settings are on http://www.tenberge-ict.nl/tools/wordpress/lips/.
Feel free to contact me through http://www.tenberge-ict.nl/contact/english/ when you think I can be of help.
